RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA)
Our Lady of mt carmel

Thank you for your interest in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. RCIA is the journey through which adults and older children can explore the Catholic faith and prepare to become full members of the Church. Whether you are curious, seeking, or ready to begin your faith journey, we are here to walk with you.

What is RCIA?

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process by which people gradually become members of the Catholic Church. It is more than a class, it is a journey of faith that combines prayer, learning, and community life. Through RCIA, participants discover what the Catholic Church believes and teaches while discerning God’s call in their lives.

Who is RCIA For?

RCIA is open to:

  • Unbaptized adults who wish to join the Catholic Church
  • Unbaptized children of catechetical age preparing for initiation
  • Baptized but uncatechized adults and children (Catholic or non-Catholic) who wish to complete their sacraments
  • Baptized Christians from other traditions who seek full communion with the Catholic Church

The RCIA Journey

The RCIA process unfolds in stages, marked by community celebrations along the way:

  • Inquiry (Pre-Catechumenate):A time to ask questions, hear the Gospel, and explore faith in a welcoming environment.
  • Catechumenate: A deeper period of learning, prayer, and parish involvement as participants grow in faith.
  • Purification & Enlightenment: A season of reflection and preparation during Lent, marked by special rites such as the Scrutinies.
  • Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist, typically celebrated at the Easter Vigil, bringing new members fully into the Church.
  • Mystagogy: The joyful time after Easter when the newly initiated reflect on their experience and grow into their new life as Catholics.

When & Where

  • Sessions begin in September each year
  • Sunday mornings in Cabrini Hall
  • Thursday evenings at 6:30 PM in the Holy Family Room
  • Additional dates or changes will be communicated by phone or email.

Regular attendance is important to make the most of the RCIA journey. Sponsors are encouraged to attend with participants and help support their growth.

Why Join RCIA at OLMC?

RCIA at Our Lady of Mount Carmel is more than a program—it is a community. Our team and sponsors walk with participants every step of the way, offering encouragement, support, and prayer. Together, we grow as disciples and celebrate the gift of becoming part of the Catholic Church.
